Citizen's Police Academy looking for applicants for 35th session

The City of Snellville Police Department is offering the 35th session of the Citizen's Police Academy in order to strengthen the bond of friendship and cooperation between our citizens and our police department.

The class runs 9 weeks and takes place Thursdays from 6 - 8 p.m. beginning on Sept. 19 and ending Nov. 7. The class will not meet Oct. 31 for Halloween.

The course helps citizens gain a better understanding of the risks and responsibilities of our police officers. Some of the classes included in this training will be traffic stops, building searches, driving under the influence and firearms safety. This program also includes a ride along opportunity with a Snellville police officer.

The program is open to all Snellville area residents, 18 years and older. The academy is free and attendees do not have to live in city limits. An application can be found at www.snellville.org/sites/default/files/uploads/police/scpa-application-revised.pdf or pick one up at the Snellville Police Department, 2315 Wisteria Drive. A background investigation will be conducted on all applicants prior to acceptance in the academy.

For more information, contact Sgt. Scott Smith at 770-985-3545 or ssmith@snellville.org.

Applications must be returned no later than Sept. 13. Space is limited and your application must be filled out completely and must be notarized.
